The College of West Georgia will transition to Division 1 soccer efficient July 1, 2024, the college announced Friday.
“This transfer to NCAA Division I marks a turning level for our college, amplifying the affect of collegiate athletics and our student-athletes and igniting a brand new period of spirited competitors,” stated Dr. Brendan Kelly, UWG’s president. “Our student-athletes, coaches, and employees are thrilled to return collectively as a Pack to attain this transition and are keen to depart an indelible legacy for future generations of Wolves.”
The varsity will be part of the ASUN as its main convention. It will make the Wolves the eleventh member of the UAC (United Athletic Convention), the football-only mixture of the ASUN and WAC.
The college, based mostly in Carrollton, Ga., has received a Division 3 nationwide championship (1982), 4 Division 2 Gulf South Convention titles (1997, 1998, 2000, 2015), and 9 journeys to the Division 2 playoffs. West Georgia completed final season 8-2 (5-2 Gulf South) and is 1-0 this season, having defeated Limestone of Division 2 Convention Carolinas, 21-19.

West Georgia will be part of UT Rio Grande Valley as future members of the UAC. The Vaqueros will start play within the league in 2025.
